Cross Country Nationals and some SUN!
Last weekend I had my very first National running competition, which was held in Guelph, Ontario.
SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW!! now just FYI…..I’ve done a national biathlon race in the thick mud and rain, which they had to turn into a running and shooting competition, and now a national running competition in the snow! hmmm….
To tell you the truth, both of these competitions were a load of fun and two great memories for me.
Before the competition, I actually spent three weeks in Toronto which were three weeks packed full of action and a lot of fun!
The first event that I attended was a climate conference at which I was one of the speakers. The topic was around recent sustainability initiatives primarily concerning our food system and the global shift to a vegan diet. It was amazing being amongst some world renowned physicians and speakers including climatologist Dr. Peter Carter, Dr. Peter Jenkins- MD, Ph.d in Nutritional Sciences and Betska K-Burr, behavior scientist. We had 229 attendees who sat through an entire day with their mouths wide open and just soaking up the information being presented to them!
After that I attended another conference on behalf of Coaching and Leadership International to tell the world about Powercoaching! Betska Spoke there about the Quantum Physics aspect of Powercoachng.
After that I was invited to give a talk at Cawthra Highschool on nutrition. Normally I speak to youngsters so it was great for a change to speak to some guys closer to my age.
And after that I hopped into a car and drove to Guelph where I met up with the team a couple of days before the big competition! Lucy and I did our pre-race workout on the race course to check things out. There were a couple of inches of snow on the ground and we were joking around that we wanted to have a storm the next day just to make it worth the trip all the way out to Toronto.
So, sure enough, the next morning upon waking up, I took a peak out the window only to see a massive blizzard, with snow coming down like crazy! In the morning there were also mighty winds and our senior men had to race in these conditions. Luckily by afternoon, the snow had stopped and some glorious sunshine came peaking through the clouds. Everything was dusted with a beautiful white snow and it wasn’t too too cold, though I have to admit I was shocked to see some woman racing with totally bare legs in the super duper short/bathing suit type shorts. I myself am not so brave and had a couple of layers of long clothing on, both top and bottom.
That pretty much completes my last few adventures. Next up I have a TWO WEEK BREAK to spend in Cancun Mexico for the United Nations Climate conference! Yahoo!
will be sure to let you know how that goes
