Vancouver Sun Run

(Me and Lucy just before cool down)
Yesterday I competed in the second largest timed 10K in the world and the third largest timed run of any distance in the world…doesn’t that sound impressive! Ever wanted to know what 50,000 runners looks like…just google Sun Run!
I was quite nervous leading up to this race. Having finished the TC10km two weeks prior in 38:10, naturally I set my goal to run the Sun Run in under 38:00. One interesting thing that I’ve noticed with my running is that it’s actually better for me to feel nervous. When I competed in biathlon I would make every effort to make sure I was not nervous before a race because it can mess up your shooting! But with my running I am finding that if I’m too relaxed I simply just don’t move fast enough…slightly detrimental…
I also have a funny story to share about getting to the mainland. I planned to carpool with a bunch of other athletes from the island and was going to walk on and meet them. I arrived at the ferry at 2:40 (20 minutes early for the 3:00…which never happens). So there I was thinking I have all the time in the world so I went outside to read my book in the sunshine. When the time comes to load I’m usually right up in the front of the line eagerly waiting to get on the ferry, but this time I decided I would wait for everyone to load and then get on. So, once I see everyone has loaded, I meander back inside only to see they have shut the doors!!!! And they wouldn’t let me in despite my begging. So I missed the ferry having arrived early! Could it get anymore ridiculous than that? I was stressed for about 2 minutes -slightly bewildered with myself- and then just gave it up and sat down to read again. The 5:00 came soon enough and needless to say I was first on!
I also have to mention a glorious restaurant that just opened up in Vancouver called “Loving Hut”. They are located right next to the skytrain station on Broadway. If you’re looking for some great vegetarian, this is the place to go!
Next up will be a series of track races here in Vic. Finally some track events…I am dying to hit up the track
(Below are pics from a recent presentation I gave in Surrey. The photo on the bottom are drawings the kids did for my arrival, how cute!)
