The TC 10km of awesomeness
You can’t beat it. The TC 10k is an unbeatable event every year. I also must admit that I have a particular attachment to this race because it is in my hometown of Victoria and it usually ends up being on a beautiful sunny spring day. This year was no exception.
Also thinking back to my biathlon days, April was considered my “off” month from training which meant I was free to do a couple of running events if I chose to. I always did, and the TC10k was a must despite being exhausted from my 500 yearly hours of biathlon training.
Well, lets cut to the chase….I set a new PR today! By a whole 2 minutes and 5 seconds! My new 10km PR is 38:10.
(Thank you to my legs for allowing me to put them into immense pain and also my coach Lucy for her invaluable advice and motivation. What a privilege it is to be walking (or running) in the footsteps of such an incredible lady and amazing athlete. Thank you Lucy!)
Favorite things about the TC 10km: fresh spring air, ocean views all the way, smiling faces, on course music including drums and bells, food at the finish line, crossing the finish line, kids running around on the grass and of course high fives all around.
Another thing that really deserves a huge light shone upon it is the fact that I have been getting regular powercoaching session from my personal Power Coach, Betska K-Burr of Coaching and Leadership International. Last week I came to a roadblock with my mental training and became so frustrated that I wasn’t sleeping at night. Thankfully Betska helped me to clarify the issue, and overcome what was blocking me. Needless to say I slept like a bear in hibernation that evening. Thank you Betska! If you haven’t had the chance to check out my powercoaching page and find out what that’s all about, I encourage you to! I think all athletes deserve a powercoach.
And one last note. You all know that I am a flaming vegan…hahaha….well maybe flaming in the sense that I can run fast despite doing everything else slow…but if you haven’t had the chance to read something on how veganism supports planet sustainability I just posted a new and very powerful article on my “articles” page. Feel free to check it out and email if you have any questions. My goal isn’t to prove that a vegan diet is better than any other diet but simply to make people aware of why I have chosen this diet for myself as I do get a lot of questions about this choice as a high performance athlete.
Seize the day my friends, it only comes once in a lifetime!
