Fall Classic

Oh the joys of running in the rain.  Last weekend I competed in the Fall Classic 5km race in Vancouver and it was a horrendous day, but nonetheless a lot of fun. I’m starting to feel a lot stronger in my races now and more in control of my leg speed, breathing and most importantly racing presence. The race course was on the road at UBC along the ocean. The trickiest part  of the race was darting all of the 10kers who had started shortly before us and who were going a much slower speed. I’m pretty sure I knocked a few shoulder passing by, but it seemed unavoidable! I also slipped a few times on wet leaves and almost bailed. I quickly found out I had to be light on my feet and careful going around corners. We were also batting the ocean head wind so there was a lot to really make for an interesting and great race experience. I do have to admit that without these little challenges thrown at me, racing would not be half as much fun. When I crossed the finish line the only thing that was going through me head was “ Wow, that was a blast… I love running so much.”
